The seeds of success that have become our modern Tree of Life were planted on October 7, 1940, when the four-story, 300-bed Charlotte Memorial Hospital opened its doors on land purchased by the Board of St. Peter’s Hospital.
As our surrounding communities and their varied healthcare needs evolved, Carolinas HealthCare System has continued to grow and prosper. Today, Carolinas HealthCare System has flourished into one of the nation’s premier healthcare networks – the largest healthcare system in the Carolinas, and the third largest in the nation.
Over 70 years of tradition, commitment, integrity and community involvement are here at CHS. So are some of America’s most talented and caring healthcare professionals and advanced medical technology and facilities. From modest beginnings, and a steadfast dedication to our core values, the Tree of Life provides a view to a future filled with incredible opportunities – for our patients and employees.
